Creating and Managing Location Types
Who is this article for?Users who are responsible for Location Type management.
Equipment Administrator(EQADM) permissions are required.
Each of the locations logged in Equipment Manager is categorised into a specific Location Type. Within the details of a location type you can associate any additional metadata fields that may be required. This article will walk you through how to administer these.

1. Accessing Location Types
To access Location Types:
- Navigate to Equipment Manager.
- Select Location Types.
You should see the following screen.
If you cannot see the search fields, select the Expand icon. You can also use the Title field to refine the results. Check the Include inactive box to show inactive records in the results.
Additionally, each column header can be selected to arrange the results in ascending or descending order.
2. Creating Location Types
To create a new Location Type:
- Click Add New icon in the header bar.
This should reveal a blank Location Types details screen.
- Complete the Title field.
- Tick the Has Address box if locations of this type require an address.
- If the Owner is different from yourself, select the relevant Owner(s) via the dropdown box.
The radio buttons below allow you to choose between a single user or a group. - Click Save to confirm.
3. Amending Location Types
To amend an existing Location Type:
- Select the row of the record you would like to amend.
This will reveal the Location Type details.
- Amend the details as required.
- Click Save to confirm the changes.
4. Associating Metadata Types
There are additional fields that can be associated with a Location Type. If associated, all Locations of that type will have the additional fields appear in their details.
To associate Metadata Types with your Location Types:
- Navigate to Location Types.
- Open Location Type Details.
- Switch to the "Metadata Types" tab.
This will reveal the below screen.
- Click the Add New icon in the header bar.
This will reveal an overlay window.
- Check the box in the far right of the column you would like to associate with your Location Type.
- Click the Link icon to associate the selected Metadata Type(s).
You can use the search fields to help filter and refine the list of results. Additionally, selecting a column head will sort the results in ascending or descending order.
5. Locations List
To access the list of all existing locations of that type, switch to the "Locations" tab.
Each column header can be selected to arrange the results in ascending or descending order.
